Found: Moist sites at higher elevations in the Northwest.

About: Heather forms dense mats, but grows to only about ten inches high.

It is very slow growing and is easily damaged, and slow to recover, by hikers leaving trails and walking on it.

Plants may live to 20 years.

Heather is an evergreen.
