                                "Political Awakening"

As we try to interpret the rampant revolts around the world (Tunisia, Yemen, Egypt, Bahrain, Libya, Syria  ...) it might be helpful to recall Zbigniew Brzezinski's expressed concern, at a CFR meeting in Montreal last year, for a "political awakening," not just in the US but around the world, which he sees as a direct threat to the ability of the global elite in managing world affairs.     ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpoYbSMEv4s&feature=related )

Apparently things have gotten even worse since Brzezinski's Trilateral Commission (he co-founded it along with David Rockefeller ...) published a report expressing a similar crisis, which they dubbed "The Crisis of Democracy", where they actually argued that there is too much freedom in contemporary democracies, and that it is necessary to curtail personal freedoms in order to preserve the governability of democracies.  They called for "some measure of apathy and noninvolvement on the part of some individuals and groups.”   You can read this report today on their website -  ( http://www.trilateral.org ) if you click on "Publications" and then click on "Browse Task Force Reports," and then scroll down to TFR 8 - "The Crisis of Democracy" (1975).   Download the pdf file and see page 114.

Or, check out Noam Chomsky's view of this alleged "excess of democracy,"  when  "people try to enter the political arena where they don't belong."  ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeMxM6fW_vE )   Chomsky describes the Trilateral Commission as an elite round table group which draws from:

"Wilsonian progressivism, Woodrow Wilson's own view that an elite of gentlemen, with elevated ideals, should govern in order to sustain stability and righteousness."

By the way, Zbigniew Brzezinski, was Barack Obama's chief foreign policy advisor during the 2008 Presidential elections and an important mentor - ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASlETEx0T-I&feature=related )
