This comes as somewhat of a surprise given some of Obama's
comments about Hillary during the campaign! Wow! What an
about face!
As we all know, one of
Obama's most biting criticisms of Hillary during the debates was
his pointing out her tenure at Walmart (where she was not just on the corporate
payroll but also on the board of directors http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnMZRvzcQww
) But remember, Hillary has
assured us that she was unaware of
Walmart's use of overseas sweatshops.
And she has also assured us that she no longer agrees with Walmart's
business practices. (Whew!) So it's understandable that
Obama would show forgiveness here. She's turned over a new leaf
since all of this, and since the Whitewater scam days (1) and
drug running in Mena (2).
As for Michell Obama's tenure (board
of directors) at Walmart supplier Treehouse foods? Thank goodness, this tenure came to a
timely end in May of 2007.
presidential campaign played no role either, even though her
association with Treehouse had
become quite controversial.
As for Obama's naming Jason Furman as
senior economic advisor? Well, perhaps
he just hasn't found out yet that Furman has
been "one of
Wal-Mart's most prominent defenders" (http://www.thenation.com/doc/20080630/klein).
As Jason Furman of New
York University puts it, Wal-Mart is "a progressive success story."
