We live on the very southern tip of Whidbey Island in Puget Sound, Washington, USA. This is one of the few places in the world where you can see the sun rise and set over water and mountains. From our beach we can see the Olympic Mountains to the west, the Cascade Mountains to the east, and Mt. Rainier due south.
Any kind of recreation you want, you can have, especially boating. We are about an hour from Seattle, on a good day. Takes a ferry to get here, and most people like it that way. So we've adjusted to no fast food restaurants, limited shopping, power outages (see What's New), long ferry lines, deer dining in our garden, hippies, and tourists. Going to the mall on the mainland is a major event, and *getting* to the airport takes longer than flying to New York. On the other hand, our garden is alive most of the year, eagles fly over the yard, we can see whales from the beach, Mike gets to take a boat to work, and the scenery is enough entertainment.
