We had Zeek (dark red golden retriever) since 1987. He died in 1998. Poor Zeek had to put up with the kids invading his life and then moving all over the country. Zeek has left his "mark" in more states than any dog ever.
We got Sam (Golden/Shar-Pei) four months after getting Max. The vet called us thinking we might still be interested in having two dogs, since Zeek had passed. They had a 6-month old dog that needed a home. So, of course, as soon as we saw Sam we had to have him. He is very sweet and gentle and looks much more like a golden retriever than a Shar-pei. We don't have as many pictures of Sam yet. A picture of Sam is on Eric's Page and on Jeanna's Page.
We got Max (blue-eyed Golden/Lab/Husky) about two months before Zeek died, although we didn't know Zeek was sick at the time. Max is just irresistible. The vet took one look at his feet and shook his head, "He's gonna be a big one". And he was right. Max is over 100 lbs now, but still very cute, and smart.
Having two dogs was rough at first. Sam turned out to be a jumper, so we had to raise the fence around their house, but he's slowly outgrown that. Max was a safecracker for a while. He figured out how to reach through the door of the deck and raise the latch with his paw and push at the same time. But now they enjoy each other's company and are fun to watch.
