Division Worksheets
submitted by: Jeff LeMieux, August, 2003This narrative describes how I use my Perl script tool, cataloged in the Math Tools digital library, in the classroom.
Course: Math 7

http://mathforum.org/mathtools/tool.html?rc=tool&new_id=1584Story: Division, especially by 2-digit or longer numbers is an area of difficulty for many people. This worksheet generator is not instructional. Rather, it allows a person to generate worksheets according to certain parameters such as the length of the dividend (5 digits), the length of the divisor (3 digits), whether the problems are positive integers (no remainders), regular (with either a remainder or a decimal solution for the quotient) or a problem containing decimal numbers. The answers are included on the bottom of the returned web page. The fonts used are suitable for worksheets and overhead masters or projection. As with most web pages, one can select part or all of the page to print.
Please note that specifying a length means the number will contain that many digits as a maximum. There might be fewer.
Where and how I used this: This script, along with the subtraction script is useful for review sessions and even extra sessions for those who are still having difficulty with the processes of long dividion. Typically, there are alternative methods presented for those students who do not appear to have mastered the standard algorithm. Similarly, these problems may be presented in a linear format (625÷26=?) to ensure accurate problem reading and interpretation.
