Assignments and Scoring Guidelines 2000-2001 Math

Assignments are :

1. Read to the students on the first day of the week for them to place on their assignment calendars.

2. Posted in the classroom before school on the first day of the week.

3. Posted on the Internet (www2.whidbey.net/ohmsmath) before the first day of the week.

4. Assignments given cover a seven day period - Monday to Monday.

Assignments are due on the day they are listed on the assignment calendar.

There is no Late Work. If the student is absent* on the day the assignment is due, then the assignment is due on their return to school. The only change in this policy is if the student is absent on the first day of the week when the assignments for the week are given. They must get their assignments on their return and make arrangements with the teacher for due dates. [*If a student is absent for 3 or more days in a row, they must check with the teacher immediately on their return for a schedule for missed work.]

Students should hand in all assignments when due, finished or not. A determination will be made as to whether it needs to be finished for full credit. Assignments done in error should also be handed in with a brief note. This will give students additional time to do the correct assignment. It is the responsibility of the student to keep their assignment calendars up-to-date and to hand in their work on time.

Students are to use the paper format posted in the classroom ( the school standard). Papers must include:

The student's LAST name

The assignment

The class and date

Papers must also have margins on all four sides and be legible. Tables, graphs and boxes are to be drawn with a ruler.

Math work must be shown. Lists of answers are seldom acceptable.

Math work is to be done in #2 or HB pencil. Written work may be in blue or black ink or done on a computer/typewriter.

Ripped out or otherwise mutilated papers are not accepted. The student may trim papers with scissors or tape rips, etc.

Papers corrected in class are to be scored with the number correct written over the number possible. The number correct is to be counted. The number possible, if not given by the teacher, is to be counted. Text assignments being handed in late (see above) or assignments that have been fixed or redone are to be corrected from the Solution's Manual before being handed in. The solution manual is not to be used during class time.

Since there is a no-late-work policy, there are no make-up assignments. There are two reasons for this. First, it fosters procrastination and second, if the student does not fully understand the concept, they might be practicing unchecked errors.

Extra credit means extra work given to raise grades if all the other work has been completed.

Students must check the returned papers bin daily to ensure that corrections, etc., are done in time to receive credit. Students have two school days from the date stamped on the paper to make the necessary fixes or corrections. Persons wishing to improve their scores may do so in the same two-day period. (see information on scoring above)
