About: There are various species of barrel cactus. Some grow to 6’. Barrel Cacti have between 20 and 28 vertical ribs.
This cactus has yellow flowers that encircle its top.
The barrel cactus is also known as the 'compass cactus' due to its tendency to grow, from its earliest age, towards the sun. Where these cacti are numerous, whole stands may be seen leaning to the southwest.
It is believed these cacti live up to 30 years.
